Hand held control for robots is taking a quantum leap forward with the development of a range of next generation application software devices, based on the Microsoft.NET Compact Framework
Though the final line-up is yet to be confirmed, visitors can expect to see several debutantes to the ABB industrial robot portfolio, and the highlight of the event will be the official UK launch of the IRB 1600 small robot, IRB 660 palletiser, IRB 260 packing robot and IRB 4450 'shelf' robot.
The new ABB small robot, the IRB 1600, will be on show in a typical plastic injection moulding machine cell, and this is complemented by a new software product, RobotWare - Plastics Moulding.
Effective team working with ABB robots is now a viable and economic proposition - achieved through the immense processing power of the new robot controller the IRC5 and its embedded MultiMove function.

Visitors will be able to see just how effective the IRC5 really is - with regular demonstrations of its abilities and powers as it links up with a state-of-the-art MultiArc welding system.
The MultiArc demonstration will include two 'team working' robots, workpiece positioner and the new state-of-the-art Migrob 500 Power Source.
Standard arc welding cells will also be demonstrated, including the FlexArc system, along with Virtual Arc, a process software tool that transforms welding from a 'black art' into a practical science.
A range of 'Service Technologies' demonstrations will take place, including a look at 'SmartSpares' - a simple and effective way to manage and track the usage of critical automation spares, to ensure that parts are easily accessible when they are needed most - during a breakdown.
On top of the equipment demos already listed, ABB will have a robot reconditioning and 'asset optimisation' display area; paint process demonstrations and technology updates; presentations by ABB staff with process expertise on trends and new technologies; presentations on Overall Equipment Efficiency and Real TPI demonstration; ABB Automation Technologies Product displays; ABB robot and wireless sensor cell; and WebWare and RobotStudio interactive tours.
David Marshall, ABB business manager - robotics, comments: "Our Technology Days bring together all that is new in robot-based manufacturing under the one roof.
For the smallest manufacturing outfit right through to the largest multi-national company, there will be ABB products, demonstrations, new technologies and just plain helpful advice, which will be directly relevant to improving your organisational manufacturing efficiency."
