By specifying ABB System 800xA, traditional control systems are expanded to include any automation component with one simple interface, enabling smarter and more efficient platform management.
These contracts provide upgrades that will extend the Valhall field production until 2050; the field was discovered in 1975 and production started in 1982.
ABB is already performing pre-engineering work, in co-operation with the Wood Group, on safety, automation and telecommunication equipment for the new production and hotel facility on the Valhall oil field.
The new production and accommodation facility will be completed by 2009.
ABB has previously received orders for pre-engineering work, as well as optional delivery of direct current converter stations at the Valhall field and at the onshore power converter facility at Lista.
Power from shore utilises the ABB High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Light Technology to ensure a sustainable power supply making Valhall one of the most environmentally friendly oil fields in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
