The batch control system, being provided by ABB Sweden, has functions for batch management and integration into the existing control system.
ABB is also providing an integrated safety system to replace the existing safety solutions, and a feasibility study of the further expansion of the batch system to cover the entire production chain from tree to sack.
Additionally, ABB has a two-year service agreement with Akzo Nobel that offers free access to upgrades for the 800xA system.
The agreement also covers preventive maintenance and field services.
Besides functions for the management of a larger number of recipes with a high repeatability, the batch control system also offers quality monitoring, possibilities to modify parameters and sequences during operation or redefine the allocation of resources, and traceability for full control of production.
?We chose the ABB solution because it well meets our requirements, and ABB was able to show examples of good solutions supplied earlier to customers as well as their know-how in the industry, which ensures that the system functions and their solutions are well suited for our industry,? says Dan Lundgrem, Technical Manager at Akzo Nobel, Ornskoldsvik.
Operation of the new batch control system is scheduled to start early in 2007.
