ABB launches next generation of temperature sensor

An ABB Automation Tech (Instrumentation + Automation) product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Nov 15, 2007

ABB has expanded its temperature measurement range with a new generation of modular sensors for process industry applications, offering easy ordering and quick delivery

The range is available in two main versions, both with ATEX, GOST, FM and CSA approvals.

The TSP100 range offers a choice of sensors for light and medium duty general process applications.

The TSP300 range is for heavy duty process and chemical applications.

Both ranges are built around an interchangeable design based on standard components.

Each sensor is comprised of a connection head which can be fitted with an exchangeable measuring inset or an optional measurement transmitter.

This provides users with a wide choice of thermometer options which can be upgraded with minimum downtime.

TSP100 sensors are available in three main models.

The TSP111 consists of a connecting head with a built-in measuring inset and an extension tube, with the additional option of a measuring transmitter.

It can be installed into an existing thermowell or a separate thermowell in new installations.

The TSP121 incorporates a welded thermowell, making it ideal for low stress applications and applications with low exposure to chemicals.

The TSP131 features a thermowell made of solid drilled bar stock, enabling it to withstand high levels of stress and vibration up to 60g as well as prolonged exposure to aggressive media.

As well as aluminium and stainless steel heads, TSP100 series sensors are also available with a synthetic head, which features a hinged lid.

Manufactured from fibreglass-reinforced polyamide, the head is suitable for ambient temperatures up to 120C.

The ABB heavy-duty TSP300 series features a stainless steel connection head capable of withstanding the harsh conditions associated with petrochemical and offshore applications.

To ensure maximum protection against extreme operating conditions, the head features a special cable guide system, which automatically positions the connecting cables in the connection area during installation.

A locking screw is also included to prevent the head screw-on cap becoming loose.

As with the TSP100 series, the TSP300 sensor series is available in three main versions.

The TSP311 is for installation in existing thermowells; the TSP321 features a welded thermowell and the TSP331 uses a thermowell made of solid drilled bar stock.

Both the TSP100 and TSP300 series sensors are part of the new ABB range of temperature measurement products for process applications.

Also including a range of transmitter types and measuring insets, this new suite of products has been designed to make ordering and installation as quick and simple as possible.
