A new range of high specification AFP Pumps

ABS, the global solution provider of wastewater technology, has released its latest range of submersible sewage pumps for municipal and commercial pumping stations.
The range has been developed by taking the best of the ABS submersible sewage pump AFP M1-ME3 series and merging them with best of the Pumpex submersible sump pump K series.
The new pump also has new features of its own, with Class H insulation and a double mechanical seal.
Class H insulation material is the highest practical insulation standard available and can withstand a permanent temperature of 180C.
When using the pump motor, under normal conditions of around 120C or less, the average expected lifetime of the motor increases significantly when it is insulated to Class H.
The motor itself is designed according to EPACT regulations for improved efficiency, Class 2.
This means that the pump motor has lower thermal waste in comparison to 'normal' motors and therefore consumes less power.
The merger has produced two models, the standard AFP pump and the higher specification AFP(K) pump.
The latter comes with a double mechanical seal, Class H insulation and lifting hoop as standard.
There are also several optional features, including a suction flange, stainless steel hydraulics, PTC resistors, EMC cable, DR25 shrink hose and closed loop cooling system with a seal cartridge.
The closed loop cooling system provides not only perfect cooling for dry well installations, but also for applications such as pumping down wide ponds where the motor is not always fully submerged.
As the system does not use the pumped system for cooling, it does not become blocked with sewage and grease as can occur with open cooling systems.
It also gives protection to workers, and provides health and safety security.
The new AFP series is suitable for both vertical and horizontal installation, and can be easily adapted for the refurbishment of pumping stations.
Even in a dry well, the motor remains submersible, and, therefore, undamaged in the event of pump room flooding.
ABS Wastewater Technology, uses sealing rings that are made of silicon carbide, the hardest, most practical and enduring material available in pumps discharging sewage.
