The global meeting place for the process
industry

In May 2009 Frankfurt will become the global focal point for chemical processing equipment suppliers and their customers when ACHEMA 2009 opens for business

The world's largest industry event is set to attract 180,000 visitors As many as 4000 organisations from about 50 countries will be exhibiting within the twelve Exhibition Groups at ACHEMA 2009

Once again there will be a large British flavour to the show.

One of the largest non-German contingents of exhibitors will be from the United Kingdom with at least 200 UK companies planning to exhibit directly.

Exhibitors from the USA, Italy and France will also be out in force.

A large growth in numbers of Asian exhibitors is anticipated.

More than 200 Asian booths were present at the last event in 2006.

To add to the global nature of the show, many UK and other foreign companies exhibit through their German subsidiaries.

For many decades, the triennial ACHEMA in Frankfurt has demonstrated its ability to be a magnet for the whole supply chain, not just from within Europe, but increasingly from emerging markets in Asia and elsewhere.

The figures from ACHEMA 2006 demonstrate the importance of the event within the international context.

Up to 50,000 of the 180,000 visitors came from outside Germany.

Crucially, the global visitor component included many high-level decision makers from the international technical community; end users, contractors, distributors and other key people in the supply chain.

Many of the trends that made ACHEMA 2006 so successful are expected to continue to influence the 2009 event.

These include the increase in exhibitors and visitors from outside of Germany, especially from Asia.

There will also be continued growth in the exhibition's key groups, especially pumps, compressors, valves and fittings, mechanical and thermal processes, pharmaceutical packaging and storage techniques.

ACHEMA has attracted more than 200 British exhibitors for each of the last three events, many of which have exhibited for many decades.

There are many reasons for the continuing ACHEMA appeal but the exhibitors perspective has to be a key one.

Some of them are happy to share their experience.

* The Institute of Chemical Engineers is the hub for chemical, biochemical and process engineering professionals worldwide.

The institute is the heart of the process community, promoting competence and a commitment to best practice, advancing the discipline for the benefit of society and supporting the professional development of its members.

Caroline Smith, IChemE Director, said, "IChemE has attended ACHEMA for many years now and we regard it as the 'must attend event' in the calendar for process and chemical engineers.

We find it an invaluable way of engaging with both existing and potential members from around the world and promoting the products and services we offer to the whole of the process community.

We hope to continue supporting this event for many years to come".

* Powder Systems Limited (PSL) design and build high containment biopharmaceutical equipment for the latest generation of high potency drugs.

PSL Systems Division provides a complete service, from process analysis and design, through to systems design, build and commissioning.

Areas of high containment expertise include filtration and drying, isolators, dispensing, drum filling and powder transfer.

Commenting on the PSL experience of exhibiting at ACHEMA, Connie Bird, Marketing Executive at PSL said, "About 75 percent of PSL turnover is exported, so International trade shows are an essential part of our marketing activities.

We exhibit at ACHEMA because of the unmatched quality and quantity of visitors attending the event.

At our booth, we show our latest product developments to existing customers, reinforcing current relationships.

ACHEMA has been a great success for PSL.

We met a large number of existing and new contacts, mainly for the German, Swiss, French, UK, Scandinavian and American markets that have already resulted in a considerable increase of sales.

So far we can directly attribute sales of over GBP250,000 to ACHEMA, and we expect this figure to rise much further with the conversion of several larger isolator and filter dryer enquiries in UK and throughout Europe.

ACHEMA is a truly international event; we meet decision makers from all over the world providing us with a magnificent amount of opportunities for the coming months and years".

But ACHEMA is not just beneficial for large organisations.

As the following comments will confirm, exhibiting at ACHEMA can be a valuable way for companies to gain a foothold or grow their business in export markets.

* The Torftech Group has supplied more than 140 plants into industry for energy, food, chemical, mineral, petroleum and environmental projects all over the world.

The group's novel gasification, pyrolysis, torrefaction and low temperature drying technologies are of particular relevance in today's market for alternative and sustainable energy sources.

Chris Dodson, the Torftech Group Founder and Chairman said, "Our objective in exhibiting at ACHEMA 2006 was to showcase our innovative process intensification and energy production from waste technologies on the world stage for the very first time.

ACHEMA, from our perspective, is the world stage for the process industries.

At ACHEMA we met for the first time a wide range of people including senior engineers and specifiers in major chemical and allied industries.

It was also a good venue to meet up with our existing clients, the vast majority of whom attend ACHEMA.

We have already booked for ACHEMA 2009".

Early booking is considered essential to get in the best Hall and best position.

"We live in a global market and both exhibitors and visitors now prefer venues that have a track record for being a focal point for international business within a particular market sector," explained Mike Day, UK and Ireland representative for ACHEMA.

"The rapid growth of low cost travel means that geography is less of an issue than it once was.

These days the time and cost of travelling to a mainland European hub is similar to that of travelling within the UK.

The new Eurostar service underlines this point".

Commenting on the requirement for booking early, Day advised: "To ensure companies secure a good position, especially in the growing sections of ACHEMA 2009, they need to make a booking decision as soon as possible.

The global nature of the event is already driving a rapid uptake.

Although ACHEMA 2009 is over 18 months away, the exhibitor booking process is already well under way.

About 70 percent of 2006 exhibitors will rebook for the 2009 show, the majority making commitments by the end of 2007". Request a free brochure from ACHEMA 2009 ...
