Continental Teves has selected the CoolAir UPS system to protect elements of its automated production line, integrating the UPS system into their existing high-pressure compressed air infrastructure

Active Power, inventor and manufacturer of the finest and most energy-efficient critical power systems in the world, has announced that Continental Teves has selected the CoolAir UPS system to protect elements of its automated production line at one of their manufacturing facilities in North Carolina Continental is a leading worldwide manufacturer of automotive braking systems with twenty locations worldwide

"The customer was looking to address a growing problem being faced by the manufacturing industry with increased automation on production lines, where power sensitive Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) require protection from minor commercial power fluctuations," said JimClishem, President and CEO of Active Power.

"Our CoolAir system will deliver conditioned power to keep operations running smoothly and provide over twenty minutes of back-up power and cooling in the event of a power outage".

The Active Power CoolAir UPS system solves a significant industry issue in a unique way.

It is the only compressed air-based UPS system on the market today.

Part of the design employs standard air tanks and a compressor to refill them, making CoolAir UPS ideally suited for companies with the infrastructure and expertise to support high-pressure compressed air.

"Continental Teves has a high-pressure compressed air infrastructure," said Gregg Pace, Facility Engineer Supervisor at Continental Teves.

"Active Power engineers showed creativity and flexibility to devise a solution to retrofit the CoolAir system onto our existing compressed air infrastructure and equipment".

The green nature of CoolAir, not common in UPS systems, also helps Continental in its efforts to comply with the requirements of its ISO 14000 certification, which is a voluntary series of environmental management standards.

The Active Power representative in the Carolinas, Power Quality Solutions, worked closely with Continental on this custom solution, exemplifying its reputation for responsive sales and service.

"CoolAir proved to be the right solution for this complex application, providing reliable power protection and the needed runtime," said Kyle Gunn, President of Power Quality Solutions.

"The ability to interconnect their compressed air system was a bonus and enabled the customer to maximise their existing infrastructure and not purchase duplicate components".
