Labelling system gears up for growth
opportunity
Daler-Rowney turned to Advanced Dynamics to help provide barcoding for individual paper sheets: the recommended Eurokett Ultra labelling system has allowed a radical increase in capacity
The installation of a Eurokett Ultra barcode labelling system from Advanced Dynamics is enabling leading artists' materials supplier Daler-Rowney to respond to international growth and market demand Advanced Dynamics collaborated closely with Daler-Rowney at its Wareham, Dorset operation and developed a special build system for high speed, very accurate barcode label placement in the corner of sheet

Aerospace component manufacturer Centrax has installed an ABB IRB2400L six-axis robot to investigate the feasibility of introducing fully automated machine tending to selected manufacturing processes
This recent Advanced Dynamics installation can comfortably handle a wide range of A1 - A4 sheet products, ensuring complete reliability as Daler-Rowney steps up its production of pads, spiral bound, blocks and sheets, as well as mounting boards.
Output is now 120 sheet per minute for A4 products and 60 sheets per minute with A1.
When Daler-Rowney first received requests for barcoding individual paper sheets it implemented a manual label application operation with eight temporary staff.
That method was limited in terms of throughput but also compromised product and brand image as consistency of placement and appearance could not be guaranteed.
The company began to consider the options for an automated system that would be able to repay the investment cost within a year whilst also providing enough capacity for future volume growth.
The Daler-Rowney Production Manager at Wareham, Alan Sagar, commented: "Advanced Dynamics are very helpful and they have enabled us turn a business necessity into an additional profit opportunity.
We have the flexibility to handle new, high-volume export sales and the machinery quality is so high that we have complete reliability.
We set a target of handling, with our growth, 7 million sheets a year and we are already achieving an annualised throughput of 5 million sheets".
He explained that Advanced Dynamics responded with a very good proposal that was the basis for the system, which with additional features, provided a bespoke line precisely tailored to Daler-Rowney, the line now runs with just two people.
"We had to respond to the market trend for point-of-sale barcode scanning of individual paper and board sheets.
We were aware of Advanced Dynamics and they quickly established a good relationship with us through understanding our needs, which fostered the potential for the strong partnership we now share" concludes Mr Sagar.
