Environmental business awards scheme
UK manufacturing industry is being encouraged to enter the environmental business awards scheme, particularly those companies in the UK manufacturing, engineering and process control industry sectors
The BCE judges were impressed by the way in which Young's Seafoods is using its influence to drive positive improvement through the seafood supply chain, right the way from boat owners to fishing companies and retailers and restaurants through to the consumer.
Innocent Drinks got onto the finalist list because of its work in recycled packaging.
In September 2007 the company launched the world's first 100 percent post-consumer recycled plastic bottle.
Originally used for four of the Innocent products, the firm has now adopted the new bottles for their entire range.
With 55 percent less embedded CO2 than the equivalent original bottle, the ultimate savings will be around 1000 tonnes of carbon a year.
Jessica Sansom, sustainability manager at Innocent commented: "We've always been a business that has taken our environmental impact seriously, and this move to 100% recycled content in our bottles is extremely exciting.
We created this special label as we really want to make everyone aware of the benefits that moving to recycled bottles has had for us and to encourage everyone out there to take a look at what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint".
The Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) Environmental Leadership Awards are the longest running, and probably the most prestigious, environmental awards in the UK.
Now in their 33rd year, the BCE Awards are judged in four sections: The Peter Parker award (named after the original BCE founder,) is the most coveted prize - for the best overall entrant.
The other categories are: Product award (sponsored by Gazeley), Process award (sponsored by E-ON), Management award (sponsored by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority) and SME award (sponsored by Blake Lapthorn Tarlos Lyons).
Within these four sections, up to nine commendations are also awarded.
This year's ceremony will be held at the end of June.
