Gone are the days when water quality monitoring involved rucksacks full of individual instruments and repeated trips to the water; Ashtead now has the YSI6920 multiparameter sonde in its rental fleet

The YSI6920 is a 14 parameter water quality monitoring instrument capable of long-term deployment even in high fouling environments This compact sonde incorporates an internal datalogger capable of recording up to 150,000 data sets at user-definable intervals

So, if the sonde is set to take a measurement from every sensors every 15 minutes, it will log for around 30 days.

As such, the YSI 6920 is ideal for long term insitu monitoring or profiling.

However, it can also be used as a portable monitor or for connection to an external logging system.

Ashtead stocks the latest version of the 6920, the V2.

It has 2 optical ports measuring turbidity and dissolved oxygen, a conductivity/temperature port, a pH port, and one ISE port.

The optical sensors feature an integrated wiper that prevents the impacts of biofouling, a corrosion-resistant titanium wiper shaft, and replaceable seals.

Additional parameters for monitoring include salinity, specific conductance, depth or shallow vented level, TDS, open-channel flow, nitrate-nitrogen, ammonia / ammonium-N, or chloride.

James Carlyle of Ashtead says "The 6920 lends itself perfectly to renting because it is a rugged, highly flexible tool suitable for a wide variety of water quality monitoring applications.

We test and calibrate the sondes in our workshops so that they are ready for deployment as soon as we deliver them and they are supplied with EcoWatch software, so customers find it very easy to download and analyse data".

The development of the YSI multiparameter sondes has meant that heavy rucksacks full of instruments and consumables are no longer necessary; a 6920 sonde fully loaded with sensors weighs less than 2Kg.

Users are now able to monitor water almost continuously so that trends can be analysed and pollution incidents can be recorded.

The facility to hire these sondes means that Ashtead customers do not have the capital costs of ownership and they do not have to worry about the calibration and storage of the many sensors that the YSI 6920 offers.
