There is such a large demand from businesses wanting to hire advanced remote visual inspection equipment that Ashtead has spent more than GBP250k over the last year expanding its fleet

The iPEK Rovver 125 and 225 Crawler Inspection Systems have proved to be two of the most popular items hired out by rental specialists Ashtead Technology Rentals for use in a wide variety of applications, including the investigation of pipes, chambers and drains One recent example saw the use of a Rovver to safely study the internal condition of the 4,400 year-old Silbury Hill in Wiltshire, after Ashtead Technology Rentals was contacted by English Heritage

As a result of such assignments, the company has expanded its fleet by purchasing many new systems and updating its existing stock.

Ashtead General Manager James Carlyle, said: "We have experienced an amazing demand for the Rovver, so much so that we have had to make a significant investment in our fleet of instruments.

They were literally flying off the shelves.

"The Rovver is an extremely robust and versatile piece of equipment and has proved to be one of the most popular instruments we have ever hired out; this investment will help serve this increase in demand".

The Rovver 125 can be used in pipes with diameters from 125mm to 450mm, while its 'big brother' Rovver 225 is designed specifically to investigate pipe work between 300mm to 1200mm.

Video footage of the Rovver in action at Silbury Hill can be found on U-tube via the website.
