Desiccant seven times more absorbent
than silica
The Air and Water Centre is launching a new type of moisture absorbing desiccant, for use in the transportation and storage of metals, which is seven times as effective as high grade silica gel
'Superdry' absorbs 150% its own weight in moisture and is available in small sachets to protect individual products from moisture damage or much larger units to maintain a low humidity in 40ft cargo containers A 2g sachet of Superdry absorbs up to 3.5g of moisture over a six-week period whereas the same sized silica-based product will only absorb up to 0.5g

As well as this increased efficiency, resulting in better protection for products against moisture damage, it also means less desiccant being required and therefore lower cost.
The exterior casing of a Superdry sachet is made of a spun-bound Tyvek material that only allows moisture to travel in.
The desiccant also locks the moisture inside the sachet by turning into a gel during the absorption process, guaranteeing 100% leak-free performance.
The active ingredient in Superdry is calcium chloride, a food-grade material with none of the adverse carcinogenic effects associated with the cobalt chloride in silica gel.
Superdry is available online from the Air And Water Centre in sachets of 2g, 5g, 10g, 25g, 50g, 100g and large 1kg and 1.4kg units.
100g of Superdry will protect an enclosed area of around 1m3 for up to six weeks.
