Their old linear graders backed up by manual weighing was simply not precise enough with Give Away running at 6-8% on fillets and more on dark meat.
After successfully running a factory trial, the company have now installed 4 Aja Optima multihead weigher machines along with a complete new conveyor feeding and packing system supplied by Aja project partners Wrightfield.
Multihead weighing has been proven time and again to be the most effective method of fixed weight weighing of fresh poultry and meat.
Guaranteeing the best combination of portions to the best weight from any given population of fillets, legs or thighs.
The mathematics is simple; with 14 or 16 weigh heads there are 14 or 16 different weights to choose from in real time as opposed to linear graders which only have 1 weigh head and rely on making a calculated 'guess' to find the best combinations.
At the same time the company moved to C wrap with Bixzerba and Herma labellers.
The whole system was fully up and running over 2 weekends.
Besides a few teething problems the companies Engineering Manager is delighted with the whole project and has been and particularly impressed with Aja guidance and management of the project.
Aja expertise in the field of fixed weight was very apparent.
Give Away after only a few weeks is now running at between 1% and 3%, which represents a massive boost to the company profits.
