In total Ajax Equipment designed and supplied six screw conveyors to transport wet PTA cake and dry PTA powder between processes.
Associated plant including chute work, swinging bucket diverter valves for switching feed to the conveyor offers greater plant flexibility.
PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) is used to produce polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the polyester resin used to make plastic drinks bottles and polyester yarn.
It is also commonly used in polyester films and various engineering resins and binders.
Pure terephthalic acid is a fine white powder manufactured by reacting paraxylene in air.
This reaction produces a crude terephthalic acid powder, which is purified at high temperatures and pressures in water, removing impurities to form PTA.
Initially the process produces slurry which is transferred to a separation process to yield a wet powder which is then mechanically conveyed, dried and transferred to storage in silos.
High Capacity Screw Conveyors.
Increasing the capacity of the plant meant uprating the capacity of the plant's screw conveyors with five larger capacity conveyors from Ajax Equipment, and the installation of a new reversible screw conveyor.
All six screw conveyors were designed by Ajax to fit within the demanding space constraints of the existing PTA production plant.
One of the units needed to be ATEX compliant for Zone 22.
Advansa have subsequently demonstrated that they have been able to meet their increased production target by using the higher capacity wet powder conveyors designed and supplied by Ajax Equipment.
