The power boiler for UPM Rauma paper has a thermal capacity of 107 megawatt (MW) and it will burn bark, forest residue, peat, sludge and small amount of recycled fuel
It will be built in Lockerbie by E.ON, the world's largest private-sector energy services company.
The E.ON investment is approximately EUR 130 million, of which the value of the Aker Kvaerner supply is about EUR 50 million.
With 44 mega watts (MW) electricity production capacity, the new E.ON station will provide some 70,000 homes with power.
The use of biomass instead of fossil fuels will avoid approximately 140 000 tonnes of greenhouse gases every year.
The power station will be ready at the end of 2007.
The aim of UK energy policy is to produce 10 per cent of total power from renewable energies by 2010.
A market-oriented incentive system has been created for this purpose.
Kvaerner Power, part of the Aker Kvaerner group, will deliver the power boiler, fuel supply system and flue gas cleaning system to the new E.ON power station.
The power boiler, with steam capacity of 126 MW, will use bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) technology and it will burn biofuels such as green wood and recycled wood.
Siemens will supply civil works, the turbine and the condenser for the plant.
