AlfaCond condenser for medium throughput
duties
AlfaCond 400 is ideal for duties such as a condensing in evaporation and crystallisation or distillation systems, or as a turbine condenser in smaller co-generation plants
AlfaCond 400 is the latest addition to the AlfaCond range, launched by Alfa Laval in 2004, and is ideal for duties such as a condensing in evaporation and crystallisation or distillation systems, or as a turbine condenser in smaller co-generation plants In common with the larger units in the range, AlfaCond 400 is specially tailored for vacuum condensation

ThinkTop automated valve control and monitoring
The ThinkTop range is the most advanced valve-top control and indicator system available, giving visual indication of valve status, plus an interface to AS-i or DeviceNet fieldbus systems.
It consists of a plate pack with plates welded together in pairs forming cassettes.
This modular approach makes it easy to size the condenser accurately for any duty and also means that it can be uprated to meet increased demand, simply by adding extra cassettes in the existing frame.
The plate pattern is specifically designed for optimal condensation, with an asymmetric configuration that features a large gap on the vapour side and a small gap on the cooling water side.
As a result, heat transfer efficiency is maximised while fouling is minimised.
A large vapour inlet connection is located centrally on the top of the unit.
Two medium sized connections for cooling media are centrally placed in the middle, to give the AlfaCond a symmetrical design that is much more compact than a conventional shell-and-tube condenser.
This combination of features makes AlfaCond more cost effective, especially if the duty calls for stainless steel or titanium.
Since it is so compact, the design also saves space which reduces transport, erection and installation costs. Thanks to the high turbulence created by corrugations in the plates, the AlfaCond 400 is much less prone to fouling compared with more conventional designs.
When fouling does occur, the unit is readily accessible and enables cleaning of the cooling water side to be carried out quickly and easily using either mechanical or chemical means.
The condenser provides genuine counter-current flow, which makes it possible to sub-cool the non-condensable gases better than in a comparable shell-and-tube installation and, in return, reduces the load on the vacuum pump.
