Amalgamated Instrument Co has enhanced its range of large digit displays, to add set-point relays, remote programming, and linearisation tables for configuring input readings - all within the display

Even more control - Relay and Remote! Amalgamated Instrument Co has further enhanced its range of large digit displays The displays are now equipped with 2 set-point relays as standard and some models, such as the LD-TM "Universal" displays and the LD-WT 4-wire strain bridge models are now supplied with 4 relays

The relays are form A, with a capacity of 5A at 240VAC (resistive load).

All the relays are individually configurable with high and low set-points, trip and reset times, hysteresis (deadband) settings and operating mode (normally open or normally closed).

In addition, in some models, relays 1 and 2 can be configured for proportional/integral control operation.

The PI operation can be set for pulse width modulation control mode or frequency modulation control mode.

This allows for progressive and accurate control of equipment such as dosing pumps, heaters etc Also announced is a remote programmer module for the AIC large digit displays.

The remote unit is plugged into the display main board and set-up and calibration can be carried out remotely.

This is especially valuable in situations where the display is installed in a high location to provide good visibility.

The operator is relieved of the necessity to climb up and down to make changes.

Once plugged in, the remote programmer allows changes to be easily made.

The unit is equipped with 10 metres of cable.

AIC large digit displays are available in digit sizes from 38mm to 200mm with some sizes available in both bright red LED or yellow "flip" electromagnetic display styles.

The "flip" digit displays are ideal for exterior use.

The LED models can be configured with an auto-brightness feature to cater for changes in ambient light levels.

One typical application for these displays involves measuring the liquid volume contained in a cylindrical tank mounted on its side: the unit can even give the volume readout for liquid contents in an irregularly shaped tank.

How do you determine the level or contents in such situations? Amalgamated Instrument Co has a range of instrumentation with linearisation to give accurate readings based on the output from an analogue transducer such as a pressure level transducer or ultrasonic level transducer.

The panel mount PM4-LN has a 50 point lineariser table.

By entering values for various transducer outputs, the user can compensate and get an accurate measure of contents.

The linearisation table, once set, is backed up in non-volatile memory so it is not lost in the case of power failure or relocation of the instrument.

AIC also has a panel mount lineariser instrument with totaliser functions - the PM4-LNT.

The PM4 instruments are available with a choice of displays and a wide range of power supply and output options.

A single set point relay is standard in the PM4 range.

A panel mount 4 digit display, the PM6-IV, has a 16 point lineariser as standard.

The PM6 range does not offer output options.

A DIN rail mount instrument with a 50 point table, the RM4-LN, is offered for those situations where the rail mount style is preferred.

In use, the irregular container has known contents added and the transducer output is noted.

Once sufficient readings have been taken, the values (contents and transducer output) are put into the linearisation table and saved.

The display will then, in future, give an accurate measure of the contents based on the table.
