The setpoint relays in monitors from AIC offer intuitive and easily configurable "trailing alarm" functions, allowing simple stepped bag filling speed control when approaching an adjustable set-point

Trailing alarms on panel meters are easily configured The setpoint relays in monitors from Amalgamated Instrument Co Pty offer intuitive and easily configurable "trailing alarm" functions

Unlike many others, the setpoint relays in the AIC products are configured in terms of "real units" rather than percentages.

This means, for example, that an alarm setpoint can be configure to trail by 10kg (in a weighing application) rather than by 10% of the primary setpoint value as is the case in some other products.

This makes the logic of setting up processes very easy.

The first alarm in the monitors is independent - one setpoint relay is standard in all but one model of the PM4 panel mount range.

Additional relays - and most panel meters can accept up to another 6 relays - can be set to trail either relay 1 or any one of the lower numbered relays.

The "trail" can be positive or negative so the trailing alarm will operate after or before the trailed alarm.

These trailing alarm configurations are easily set up using the pushbuttons available on the instrumentation.

No special test or setup equipment is required.

Applications can include motor and valve control in a bag filling operation, for example.

The relays can be set to control feeder motor speed in steps ("high speed" to "low speed" to "stop") and, perhaps, to control the operation of a dump flap or valve.

The control will be based on weight and the filled bag weight can be changed and the other relay values will change with it.

It is not necessary to configure every relay every time a different bag weight is required.

The flexibility of the feature makes the AIC panel mount range a very valuable part of process control operations.
