The American Welding Society has announced their newly published standard on titanium welding, AWS G2.4/G2.4M:2007, a guide for the Fusion Welding of Titanium and Titanium Alloys

The American Welding Society (AWS), the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the science, technology and application of welding, announced their newly published standard on titanium welding, AWS G2.4/G2.4M:2007, a guide for the Fusion Welding of Titanium and Titanium Alloys This American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved standard covers the best practices to allow first-time users of titanium, as well as established titanium fabricators, to join titanium parts into quality components

This first edition of the standard represents the culmination of many years of work by the AWS G2 Committee on Joining Metals and Alloys.

It was developed in response to an industry demand for a standard on titanium welding that could guide management, engineers, foremen, and welders as titanium is increasingly specified, due either to its corrosion resistance or its light weight.

Titanium requires greater attention than other materials to cleanliness and proper use of auxiliary inert gas shielding to avoid contamination of the weld.

The standard contains 52 pages, and includes 8 figures and 20 tables.

The price is US$60 for non-members or US$45 for AWS members.

AWS publications may be ordered online.

A catalogue listing all AWS standards and other documents is available for download from the AWS web site.
