Amphenol Industrial Operations has introduced a new field-installable compression lug that offers higher ampacity, lower insertion force, higher cycle durability, and increased reliability

Amphenol Industrial Operations, a manufacturer of high reliability connectors and interconnection systems for the industrial markets, has introduced a new field-installable compression lug that offers higher ampacity, lower insertion force, higher cycle durability, and increased reliability The Plastic Sur-Lok compression lug is ideal for medical, process control, heavy plant and rail industry applications and any equipment with high current cables that are frequently plugged and unplugged

The Plastic Sur-Lok features two locking mechanisms that ensure a secure connection to maintain voltage and amperage levels.

The head of the pin locks into place once mated to the socket.

In addition, the head snaps into the inside of the plastic cap for an even more secure connection.

The new compression lug utilises industry standard colour codes to specify the wire size needed.

Any industry standard U-indent/clamshell or 4-indenter crimp tool can be used to perform the crimp termination on the wire, eliminating the need to purchase a special crimp tool.

Plastic Sure-Lok is RoHS-compliant and features the Amphenol patented Radsok contact technology to increase ampacity.

With millions of parts in the field, the Radsok electrical connection has proven to be extremely reliable, with almost no reported connection failures in Amphenol Radsok-designed applications.

Radsok utilises the tensile strength properties of the flat, high conductivity alloy grid for the high normal forces required for conductivity, while providing a large conductive surface area.

This results in a correspondingly low voltage drop and low temperature rise while maintaining low insertion forces.

Plastic Sure-Lok is available in four sizes.

The 3.6mm contact (70 amps with 8 AWG) has a threaded tail termination, whilst the 5.7mm contact (95 amps with 6 AWG), the 8.0mm contact (170 amps with 2 AWG), and 10.3mm contact (350 amps with 2/0 AWG) feature tapped tail terminations.
