A range of precision high voltage power supplies has been introduced by Applied Kilovolts.

The new LS range makes use of proprietary techniques to minimise component stress and enable unprecedented reductions in output ripple, noise and drift.

The units provide power outputs of up to 1 Watt, and are intended for mass spectrometers and similar applications, where an extremely low ripple and highly stable power supply is essential for achieving high resolution outputs.

The LS family extends from <1kV to 50kV, and builds on the expertise created through the development of the Applied Kilovolts innovative HP range.

Throughout the family, ripple is <2 parts per million (ppm), temperature coefficient is <10 ppm/deg C, while drift is as low as 25 ppm (0.0025%).

Until now these levels of ripple and stability have been unobtainable with commercial high voltage power supplies.

Applied Kilovolts power supplies are also surprisingly cost effective.

"Our customers continue to require better resolution and stability in their machines," said managing director Kevin Wheelhouse.

"The new LS range delivers that improved performance at a relatively low cost".

As well as powering mass spectrometers, Applied Kilovolts' modules are suitable for electron microscopes, photo-multiplier tubes, micro-channel plates, nuclear instruments and other applications that require a precision high voltage supply.

These include low power X-ray machines, which are increasingly used in the monitoring of fill levels in food packaging lines, as well as in medical diagnostics.
