HV power supplies offer unprecedented stability

An Applied Kilovolts product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Dec 3, 2007

The Applied Kilovolts range of extreme precision high voltage power supplies has been expanded with the addition of electrically reversible models

The LS series uses proprietary techniques to minimise component stress and enable unprecedentedly low levels of output ripple, noise and drift.

The new electrically reversible units provide power outputs of up to 1 Watt, and are available in voltages up to 30kV.

They are intended for mass spectrometers and similar instruments, where extremely low ripple and high stability are essential for achieving high resolution analysis.

Throughout the LS family, ripple is significantly below 1 part per million (ppm), temperature coefficient is <10 ppm/C, while drift is as low as 50 ppm/hr.

This level of performance was previously unobtainable with commercial high voltage power supplies.

The LS series builds on the Low Stress expertise developed by Applied Kilovolts in its higher power HP range.

All the units include a differential control input, and are short circuit and flashover proof.

A steel case ensures a low level of radiated magnetic field.

As well as powering mass spectrometers, Applied Kilovolts' modules are suitable for electron microscopes, photomultiplier tubes, microchannel plates, nuclear instruments and other applications that require a precision high voltage supply.

These include low power X-ray machines, which are increasingly used in the monitoring of fill levels in food packaging lines, as well as in medical diagnostics.
