Arc Energy achieves ASME 'U and R'
certification
Weld overlay cladding and fabrication specialist Arc Energy Resources has recently been qualified by ASME, which establishes the codes and rules for pressure vessels, nuclear plant and boilers
The certification is in addition to the ISO 9001-2000 quality system which the company has operated for many years Congratulating the Arc Energy team of welding and quality engineers on gaining the 'U' and 'R' stamp certificates of authorisation, managing director Alan Robinson explains that while the company has produced components for ASME certified vessels for many years, recent changes in the regulations mean that in future this highly specialised type of welding must be carried out in a qualified workshop

Gloucester-based Severn Glocon has 40 years experience designing and developing specialised control valves for the oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, power and industrial gas industries world-wide
This has involved the company introducing a completely separate ASME approved quality system to qualify for accreditation; and means that materials purchasing, production routing and inspection now have to be planned separately from other commercial work.
However, as Alan Robinson reports, there was an early return on the man-hours invested when an export order that had previously been withheld was released for production; and the sales department received an enquiry for the complete construction of two weld overlay clad vessels to be produced to the ASME code.
