Arlington Packaging and Roke Manor Research announce a joint venture that will bring users of returnable transit containers a unique way of tracking their assets.
Utilising RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, the new system is both cost effective and robust, meaning it can be used in any application to track and manage transit containers.
Arlington Packaging has a twenty year history of packaging design and distribution and is recognised as a market leader within the materials handling field.
Roke, the Siemens Innovation and Product development centre in the UK is expert in RFID technology and has developed many market leading products.
Combining the two companies' expertise offers the market a unique opportunity to implement RFID asset tracking within the logistics and distribution chain.
Harry Fairbank, Managing Director of Arlington Packaging stated "I am delighted to announce our partnership with Roke Manor Research to produce this market leading product.
The use of RFID within the distribution chain to track and manage transit containers will reduce losses and increase utilisation.
That will mean fewer containers in use and fewer wasted journeys to collect or redistribute containers that are in the wrong place.
This will reduce costs and ultimately benefit the environment".
Returnable transit containers are an environmentally sound way of reducing packaging waste and increasing efficiency in the supply chain.
Tracking the containers and ensuring that they are not lost and are in the right place when they are needed is the biggest challenge facing users.
RFID systems will reduce losses and enable real-time location tracking utilising RFID tags that fix to the containers.
These tags contain information that identifies the container, its owner and its contents.
This information is captured by readers located throughout the supply chain, centrally collated and then used to highlight containers being lost or in the wrong place.
