FlashDrop achieves fast drive
configuration
Motor drive parameters can now be set and installed in seconds, with a patented new technology from ABB, a hand-held device to select and set parameters and copy configurations between drives
Motor drive parameters can now be set and installed in seconds, with a new hand-held device from ABB: the FlashDrop can select and set parameters and copy configurations between drives, without even powering up the drive! FlashDrop is a patented new technology from ABB that streamlines the drive configuration process, allowing users to download a set of parameters in just two seconds The hand-held device comprises a control panel base unit and programming tip

It can be used to choose and edit parameters and can store several sets of parameters.
No specialised knowledge is required to use FlashDrop and the user interface will be familiar to users of ABB drives.
FlashDrop is currently available for the ABB general machinery drive ACS350 and component drive ACS150.
Stored parameter sets can be clearly named to identify the associated end-user or application.
As well as setting parameters, FlashDrop allows certain parameters to be hidden in order to simplify the end-user interface and protect application hardware.
To transfer parameters between the FlashDrop unit and a drive, the user simply plugs the programming tip into a socket in the drive front panel.
It can all be achieved without even removing the drive from its packaging, since the process does not require the drive to be connected to a power source.
This allows wholesale distributors to pre-configure drives prior to delivery, or enables high volume OEMs to speed up the parameter setting process.
Parameters can be copied from one drive to another by uploading them to the FlashDrop unit and downloading them to the second drive.
FlashDrop can also be used with a PC to take advantage of the PC user interface and storage capacity.
ABB DrivePM software is installed on the PC and communication between the PC and FlashDrop unit is via the serial port.
Parameter sets can then be created using the PC or the FlashDrop unit.
