He has also been the ABB account manager for Centrilift, a US-based manufacturer of pumps for the oil industry.
Alexander retains this position.
ABB is forecasting a boom in the medium voltage AC drives market and has appointed Alexander to fulfill the market potential.
"We are already well ahead of our total budget for the year by the end of the first quarter," says Alexander: "We are able to capitalise on our excellent reputation with low voltage AC drives where we remain the UK market leader".
The growth is attributed to investments from oil and gas producers as well as the power generation industry, which is investing in new plant to replace ageing facilities, as well as to meet stricter emission levels.
ABB is also able to offer turnkey solutions that include switchgear, transformers, motors and control systems.
ABB is well positioned to tap into this market, offering the widest range of medium voltage AC drives from any supplier, ranging from 0.3 MW to over 100 MW.
Since 1998 the company has launched three new medium voltage drive models, using a mix of proven motor control platforms, semiconductors and topologies.
Additionally, ABB has just launched an air cooled version of its ACS5000 medium voltage drive, with powers up to 7MW.
Alexander is a Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, married with two daughters, and lives in Montrose, Scotland.
