ABB receives E1.5M motors and drives order for UAE

An ABB Automation Tech (Drives and Motors) product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Oct 31, 2007

ABB is supplying 1000 hazardous area motors and 150 variable speed drives worth Euro1.5 million as part of a massive project being undertaken by Abu Dhabi Gas Industries, to expand its gas processing

The OGD-III Project is designed to process 1,306 million standard cubic feet per day of condensate rich gas at Habshan, near Abu Dhabi, which will lead to the plant producing 11,800 tons per day of Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) for export and 130,000 barrels per day of condensate, to be used as fuel locally.

The main facilities comprise two trains, each of which includes separation, condensate stabilisation, gas treatment and NGL recovery facilities.

The project also includes installation of a gas re-injection system and a separate NGL pipeline from Habshan to Ruwais.

The main contractor on the project is Bechtel (UK) and the project is due for completion by April 2008.

ABB is supplying variable speed drives and hazardous area motors as ATEX approved packages.

All the ABB motors are designed for low-noise operation and will run pumps, fans and compressors in ATEX hazardous Zones 1 and 2.

ABB is supplying the motors to all the relevant OEMs under a framework agreement arranged with Bechtel and Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (GASCO).

The motors range in size from 0.55kW to 132kW.

The majority of the motors are non-sparking, while the rest are being supplied with explosion-proof enclosures.
