Hot tap and flow-stop operations on gas mains

An AVK UK product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jan 4, 2008

Gas engineers and contractors across the UK have had practical input into the new AVK Donkin Series 158 under-pressure drilling valve, including extensive field trials

The field trials were carried out in collaboration with the National Grid Pipeline Maintenance Centre.

The result is a fully engineered response to the challenges associated with the complex task of drilling into pressurised mains.

Complementing the market-leading Series 555 range, the 158 enables the user to carry out hot taps and flow-stop operations in the most efficient way possible on PE, ductile iron, cast iron and steel pipes up to DN300.

The studded flanges on the valve are compatible with all makes of drilling and flow-stopping equipment and are long enough to work with all types of PN16 flanges, including the PE stub type.

The multi-turn spindle gives a free-running, low-torque positive operation.

Rated at 7 bar, the Series 158 can be used for low, medium and intermediate pressure operations, reducing the number of valves that the customer has to keep in stock.

It is approved to V7: Part 1 Specification and carries the new Gas Industry Standard (GIS) kitemark.
