Axens awarded Qatar refinery contracts
Qatar Petroleum has awarded Axens the basic engineering design contracts for the new 250,000 barrel per day Al Shaheen refinery to be built in the Messaieed Industrial City in Qatar
Axens will supply the following process technologies for the refinery: Hyvahl, 51,000 bpd, fixed-bed, 100% vacuum residue desulphurisation (VRDS) unit equipped with its proprietary PRS permutable guard-bed reactor system; R2R, 60,000 bpd residue fluidised catalytic cracker (RFCC) technology; Prime-G+, 30,000 bpd RFCC gasoline desulphurisation unit.
The refinery units will be provided with the latest advanced technologies making this one of the most modern refinery complexes in the world.
The facility is scheduled to be operational by Q1 2012.
The long cycle lengths obtained in the Hyvahl unit on the 11% asphalt containing Al Shaheen VR feed is made possible by the PRS system.
The unit will also employ the latest ACT grading materials, HF 858 demetallisation and HT 438 desulphurisation catalysts, and EquiFlow reactor internals.
The Hyvahl unit radically improves the feed quality to the R2R unit while co-producing a diesel cut that is subsequently upgraded.
The R2R RFCC is a highly reliable cold-wall construction adapted to maximise gasoline and propylene production.
Some features of this technology are its MTC mixed temperature control, the advanced RS2 riser termination device and KFBE structured stripper packing.
The unit is also equipped with a catalyst cooler from Sinopec Engineering.
The basic engineering design of the R2R unit was completed by The Shaw Group Energy and Chemicals Group.
R2R is part of the Axens, Shaw, Total and IFP FCC Technology Alliance.
Finally, the world's benchmark in FCC naphtha desulphurisation technology, Prime-G+, will ensure the production of ultra-low sulphur gasoline.
Notes:.
Hyvahl, R2R, Prime-G+, PRS, EquiFlow, MTC and RS2 are proprietary commercial names of Axens.
R2R is a technology commercialised by Axens and Shaw, and part of the global FCC alliance between Axens, Shaw, Total and IFP.
KFBE is a proprietary name of Koch Glitch.
