Sealless pumps for the petrochemical
industries

Following the API standard relating to the use of sealless pumps in the petrochemical, oil and gas industries, Hermetic Pumps launches the CNP API 685 series as part of their canned motor pump range

Following the introduction of an API standard relating to the use of sealless pumps in the petrochemical, oil and gas industries, Hermetic Pumps has extended its canned motor pump range with the launch of its CNP API 685 series It has been the absence of an API specification that historically has held back the use of sealless pump technology

Available in the UK through Axflow Limited, the new CNP pump series encompasses the complete performance range of single-stage centrifugal pumps, having a capacity of up to 800cu.m/h and pumping heads of up to 300m.

The canned motors are available for power requirements up to a maximum of 290kW.

ATEX certified the CNP pump series is suitable for heavy duty applications and has been designed with a nominal pressure of PN50, with the pump and motor being pressure tested up to 75 bar.

"The Hermetic CNP pump series consists of a single-stage pump hydraulic end combined with proven canned motor technology, " says Axflow managing director Tony Peters.

"Centreline mounting with flanged drain is also part of the standard design".

API 685 is mandatory where operating parameters such as discharge pressure, suction pressure, temperature, revolution and pumping level exceed stipulated threshold values in the refinery, petrochemical and gas industries.

In addition to the basic design including accessories, API685 also encompasses specific requirements for canned motor pumps and in particular the construction, seals and drive.

Recommended applications for Hermetic CNP API 685 pumps include.

* Hazardous liquids - eg acids, ethylene oxide, toluene, aniline.

* Liquids with high vapour pressures - eg propane, butane.

* Temperatures between -120C and +500C.

* Low viscosity fluids.

* High pressure cycles with liquid substances or super critical gases.

"This new pump is already being used in a European refinery for handling heavy naphtha in a hydro-treating process," reports Tony Peters.

"For this application, the API 685 canned motor pumps were supplied with an external heat exchanger to accommodate a design temperature in excess of 300C. Request a free brochure from AxFlow ...

The major advantage identified by the end user was the absence of any mechanical seal and the associated leakage problems at this temperature.".
