Leak-free pumping with Mouvex Technology

Within pharmaceutical manufacturing, there is a substantial requirement for pumps that are capable of handling shear sensitive liquids and those which adversely affect mechanical seals.

It is also highly desirable for such pumps to offer leak-free performance.

These requirements can be met by using the 'Mouvex' principle, whereby the pump unit employs an oscillating eccentric piston to produce the pumping performance of a rotary positive displacement pump.

However, its action is far more sensitive.

Developed by Blackmer, the 'Mouvex' principle C-Series pump range does not require mechanical seals, so it provides leak-free performance.

Suitable for throughputs up to 36m3/h and pressures up to 9 bar, Blackmer Mouvex pumps provide a constant product flow that is independent of both pressure and viscosity.

This, together with the presence of automatic piston/cylinder wear adjustment, ensures full flow efficiency and high levels of product stability at all times.

The medium is pumped by the eccentric movement of the oscillating piston within the pump chamber.

Self-priming and capable of dry-running, this type of pump will clear both the intake and discharge lines of any residual liquid.

Lubrication of all moving parts is provided by the pumped medium.

Applications where this type of pump has been installed as a replacement include feeding glucose into a buffer tank for the manufacture of pharmaceutical syrup.

The stainless steel bellows that totally enclose the mechanical transmission eliminates the traditional mechanical seal and safeguards against any possible leakage of this viscous fluid.

Constructed from 316 stainless steel, the ATEX compliant C-Series conforms to standard 3A and the hygienic recommendations required by EHEDG.

Cleaning is performed in place simply by flushing out the unit without any requirement for disassembly.

"The shear sensitive products encountered in pharmaceutical manufacturing present considerable problems for mechanical seals," comments Tony Peters of Axflow Limited, "Aggressive liquids contribute to premature wear of seals.

The Mouvex principle C Series pump ensures gentle handling of the pumped medium." "When dealing with the pharmaceutical manufacturing and personal care products sectors," continues Tony Peters," we do suggest that customers look at this type of pump as an alternative to traditional positive displacement pump technology.
