Pulsation dampeners protect pumping
systems
Pulsation and hydraulic shock created by the reciprocating nature of positive displacement pumps can be countered by introducing a pulsation dampener as close as possible to the pump outlet
Pulsation and hydraulic shock created by the reciprocating nature of positive displacement pumps can have potentially damaging effects on a pumping system Typically defined as the amplification of a system's pressure and liquid flow, pulsation is most commonly caused by the acceleration and deceleration of the pumped fluid

Magnetically driven self-cleaning filter launched
Available from Axflow Limited, the MCF is a unique filter that employs magnetically coupled drive technology to move the self-cleaning disc, eliminating the need for shaft or external drive seals
However, it is possible to counter the effects of pulsation and hydraulic shock through the introduction of a pulsation dampener as close as possible to the pump outlet.
Charged to approximately 80-90% of the liquid line pressure, the pulsation dampener absorbs the pulsation, with the amount of pulsation absorbed being a function of the dampener size relative to the stroke volume of the pump.
Of the many types of pulsation dampener available, by far the most popular is now the hydro-pneumatic appendage type model, which consists of a pressure vessel containing compressed gas, generally air or nitrogen, separated from the process liquid by a diaphragm.
The AxFlow Blacoh Sentry range of pulsation dampeners has been developed to satisfy the widest possible mix of applications, where pressures can be as high as 276bar and temperatures ranging from -51C to +205C.
Capable of producing a near steady fluid flow up to 90% pulsation and vibration free, the Blacoh Sentry protects pipes, valves, fittings, meters and in-line instrumentation from destructive pulsations, vibrations, surges, cavitation, thermal expansion and water hammer.
As a result, they can create a steady and continuous flow when dosing, blending or proportioning additives, as well as enabling a uniform application of material in spraying and coating systems.
Available from AxFlow for all positive displacement pumps with discharge sizes from 4mm (1/8in) to 150mm (6inch), Sentry units are simple to install and suited to fast in-place maintenance.
Bodies are available in a full range of chemically resistant materials and bladders are suitable for even the most corrosive applications.
Pulsation dampeners are the most efficient and effective means of preventing pumping systems from the harmful effects of pulsation, and will also contribute to enhancing the all-round performance and reliability of the fluid handling equipment. Request a free brochure from AxFlow ...
