AxFlow to the rescue! Axflow pump engineers in Scotland have come to the aid of the Search and Rescue helicopter crew on the BP Miller Platform in the North Sea, supplying a potable water supply for their new operations module Due to the problems with tying into the existing water supply on the platform, a new separate system had to be installed solely for the supply of water for the crew and also for washing down the helicopter

The problem was that in order for the crew to occupy the new module a fully self-contained skid had to be designed, fabricated and built within four weeks for the contractor, Production Services Network (PSN).
Normally this type of application would be done using a small hygienic centrifugal type pump.
The AxFlow solution was to design a skid incorporating two Waukesha Cherry-Burrell 030 U2 pump sets complete with associated pipework, a low/no flow detection system, pressure relief system, high pressure trip system and an ATEX rated control panel.
All this kit had to be mounted inside a stainless steel cabinet with an ATEX rated space heater.
Last but by no means least, there were over 65 documents that had to be prepared, submitted and approved prior to despatch.
Callum Crews of AxFlow takes up the story: "The skid was designed and built in conjunction with the Brimmond Group, who have helped AxFlow on a number of similar packages in the past.
Working closely with our customer PSN and our own suppliers we managed to co-ordinate the project to come in on time and on budget.
Our Aberdeen-based team of engineers had to work a few late nights to get it done, but it was managed and PSN were able to meet their deadline".
As a result of this performance, AxFlow has established a good relationship with PSN and also the crew on board the BP Miller Platform.
"We are now developing our business to accommodate the need to be able to take the 'whole problem' from the customer and offer a full design and build package which meets their requirements," says Callum Crews. Request a free brochure from AxFlow ...
