Sorin Group, the largest European cardiovascular medical device group has announced the signature of a series of agreements restructuring its IT outsourcing relationships with third party providers

Sorin Group agree new strategic outsourcing agreements with BASF IT Services and T-Systems Italia SpA ('T-Systems') Sorin Group, the largest European cardiovascular medical device group and world leader in medical technologies for cardiac surgery, has announced on Friday the signature of a series of agreements restructuring its IT outsourcing relationships with third party providers

Following many years of proactive partnership, and in the light of the de-merger of Sorin Group from the now primarily chemical-production conglomerate SNIA, T-Systems and Sorin Group have redirected their relationship into three strategic areas.

In addition to the active collaboration which characterised their previous partnership, T-Systems will assist Sorin in the transition of certain IT services to BASF IT Services and will provide consulting services in areas of strategic focus for Sorin.

In addition, T-Systems will become the exclusive provider of outsourced IT services for the Sorin Group Renal Care Division, led by Bellco SpA, within the scope of a new five-year framework agreement.

BASF IT Services will become the exclusive provider of 'full service' IT services across 19 European locations in ten countries (including production sites) in a new a five-year exclusive provider agreement - creating a business partnership based on clear 'Service Level Agreements' to ensure maximum price-transparency.

The focus of the new agreement will be the standardisation of over 2,000 workplaces in order to drive efficiency across the Italian multinational, including through introduction and operation of a new IT infrastructure, utilising state-of-the-art hardware and software.

A key feature of the new agreement is the creation of a 'Competency Centre' staffed by IT experts to anticipate and address special needs of Sorin.

With immediate effect, all data will be run via the BASF IT Services renowned Data Centre in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

"Sorin identifies 'best-in-class' IT services as a strategic priority.

We are therefore delighted with the new agreements, which provide us with the benefit of key strategic consulting services from T-Systems alongside the long term experience BASF IT Services gained from working with the BASF", said Giovanni Caruso, Executive Vice President, Corporate, "T-Systems provides flexibility and commitment".

Also in today's agreements, T-Systems has been able to join a high technology customer in ensuring that status quo is not an option, allowing our two industrial groups to further continue their long partnership", said Giorgio Iuliano, Sales Director North West, T-Systems Italia.

"We help our customer to be more successful," said Wolfgang Erny, Managing Director of BASF IT Services: "We have aligned our model of business partnership to the development needs of our new customer Sorin in order to offer ever greater service for less money, delivered through leveraged technological progress".
