Ludwigshafen and BASF IT Services reckon that by eliminating IT 'island' solutions, council work will be more efficient and less costly.

BASF IT Services is also responsible for the on-site support for everything concerning computers.
This means that in the case of a problem, municipal workers can turn to the Customer Service Center (CSC), BASF IT Services central call center, which is located in Schwarzheide, Brandenburg, and is also the point of contact for ten thousands other users in Europe.
The change to the new IT landscape started in May and should be completed by autumn.
Currently, only 1,200 of the 1,600 computers required are to be exchanged, because the municipality of Ludwigshafen can retain 400 of its existing PCs.
The manufacturer Dell is to supply the new computers.
BASF IT Services loads the computers with the appropriate software, actually by remote control via its network.
Thereafter, IT experts deliver the machines, install them and put them into operation.
BASF IT Services know-how with regard to standardising PCs has been well proven following a major project for the BASF.
In just 13 months, BASF IT Services installed approx.
31,000 new PCs in all the BASF locations throughout Europe, significantly increased the service capacity of the corresponding network and reorganised the support service accordingly.
As with the borough of Bobenheim-Roxheim, the municipality of Ludwigshafen is another customer from the public service sector.
