It pays to use IT solutions in Health and Safety
Environment and health safety, work safety and social responsibilities are important topics in the process industry: companies need effective IT to comply with legal and safety targets
Along with this is the concentration on a holding company still to be founded in the largest location, Ludwigshafen.
The new company will absorb the holding company and headquarters previously located in the Netherlands and Switzerland, respectively.
The focus of plan business is based on the design of business management processes and their mapping in IT systems.
The company, with a staff of 140, had a turnover of approximately 25 million euros in 2004.
Companies such as Volkswagen, Panasonic and Continental are some of the plan business established customers.
Since its spin off from BASF in April 2001, BASF IT Services is active in the external market, the purchase of plan business is however its first acquisition.
The turnover from non-BASF customers, which was about 24 million euros in 2004, came entirely from organic growth.
Therefore BASF IT Services built up its own sales and marketing team in 2001.
With the purchase of plan business, BASF IT Services reaches its goal to earn 15 to 20 per cent of its turnover with non-BASF customers.
"Decisive for us primarily was the consistency in strategy, portfolio, customer structure and local presence", says Wolfgang Erny, speaking on behalf of the Board of BASF IT Services.
"The two companies complement one another very well".
"plan business and BASF IT Services are joined through common goals.
For instance, we lower the IT costs for our customers and optimise their processes.
We are convinced that the customers of both companies will profit from the amalgamation," says plan business CEO Christian Behrendt: "A major advantage is the immediate availability of global infrastructure for our operational services," adds CSO Dirk Weinert.
The portfolio ranges from consulting, through design and creation, up to the implementation of complete IT solutions.
It is based on operational as well as consulting and implementation services.
BASF IT Services will also restructure the legal form of the holding company at the turn of the year.
Management functions and operational units will be clearly separated.
This will for instance simplify the integration of purchases.
From the concentration of the holding company and the headquarters to the location in Ludwigshafen, the company expects synergies and increased effectiveness.
As a consequence, the entire European management team will work out of Ludwigshafen.
The location in Waedenswil will be closed.
BASF IT Services is endeavouring to find for the approximately 50 affected employees suitable alternatives in other locations.
It will look for a socially acceptable solution for each staff member.
