Lorenz Snack-World, traditional producer of savoury snacks headquartered in the German city of Neu-Isenburg, is turning to BASF IT Services to meet its future IT needs by outsourcing

Lorenz Snack-World, traditional producer of savoury snacks headquartered in the German city of Neu-Isenburg, is turning to BASF IT Services to meet its future IT needs.

The full-service IT provider from Ludwigshafen will handle provision of the entire IT infrastructure and operation of all applications at Lorenz Snack-World.

A project and migration phase will last approximately one year until the end of December 2007, when ongoing operation of all applications will be put in the hands of BASF IT Services for an initial period of three years.

The overall volume of the frame agreement signed on December 13, 2006 in Ludwigshafen amounts to several million Euros.

In the course of successive outsourcing activities, as a new partner BASF IT Services will also remove the Lorenz Snack-World IT systems from their previous position in the Bahlsen IT complex by the end of 2007.

In parallel, during the one-year transitional phase all systems will be migrated to a complete new infrastructure in the Ludwigshafen data centre of BASF IT Services.

The third project step entails upgrading Lorenz SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) to the latest technologies with a release change to ECC 6.0.

In addition to the SAP ERP system, starting at the end of 2007 BASF IT Services will take over hosting, maintenance and continuing development for all other IT systems employed by Lorenz, such as the supply chain management system SAP APO (Advanced Planner and Optimiser), the payroll system SAP HR (Human Resources) and the CRM system CPWerx from vendor CAS.

As of December 2007, BASF IT Services will also take over all desktop services for Lorenz Snack-World, including hosting and operation of eMail and messaging systems, setup and support for LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) and the entire area of IT security.

The BASF IT Services Customer Service Center (CSC), already contact point for over 50.000 PC users throughout Europe, will also handle support for Lorenz Snack-World employees in Germany and Austria.

The CSC will provide Lorenz Snack-World with support for approximately 600 IT workstations at five different locations.

"In our industry it's crucial that logistics processes are represented precisely with the information technologies used.

BASF IT Services has many years of experience in this area and the associated expertise in the SAP world.

This was one of the decisive factors in our choice of the BASF subsidiary," explains Angela Weissenberger, CIO at Lorenz Snack-World: "We are very pleased that those responsible at Lorenz Snack-World have been convinced by our services.

We intend to make use of our expertise in greatly reducing the share of IT costs in overall revenues and improving cost/benefit relationships in IT value added.

This means helping our customer to be more successful, not only on a short-term basis, but also in the mid-range and long-term picture," says Wolfgang Erny, BASF IT Services Managing Director.
