BOC Gases Ireland installs Hansen drive unit

A Hansen Transmissions product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jun 25, 2009

BOC Gases Ireland has updated the inefficient existing worm and wheel drives for its cooling tower fans in Cork and Dublin with a P4 bevel helical unit from Hansen Transmissions.

BOC Gases Ireland had been experiencing recurring failures with its existing worm and wheel units and those failures were proving to be expensive, both in terms of repair cost and downtime.

BOC Gases engineers confirmed that the existing drives were not ideally suited to the demanding application of cooling tower fan drives.

They decided that a Hansen P4 bevel helical unit, with suitably sized bearings, would be a far better option.

While the order covered the drives in the towers, plus one spare unit, the initial supply was for just one, in order to prove the ease with which the change could be made.

That unit was delivered and, with a Hansen engineer on site to advise and assist, it was installed without any problems.

The remaining four units are due to be delivered soon.
