Put pen to paper for pumping stations
BHR Group issues call for papers for next Water and Wastewater Pumping Station Conference, to be held in Cranfield, UK on 12-13 April 2005
BHR Group issues call for papers for next Water and Wastewater Pumping Station Conference.
Pumping stations are an integral part of all clean water, cooling water or wastewater transmission systems.
But these seemingly basic facilities can present the professionals charged with creating and managing them with a series of design, engineering, operational and financial challenges.
The industry needs to deliver the required performance whilst minimising capital and operating costs.
Refurbishment or improvements to existing stations, such as those required under AMP3, are subject to similar financial constraints while the technical challenges include minimisation of disruption to existing works.
A thorough understanding of local conditions and constraints is required together with knowledge of the civil engineering techniques most suitable for siting and constructing the facility and the ability to design the most cost-effective solution.
In development areas there may also be a need to identify and source international funding and project support.
Only an integrated approach to pumping station design can meet these challenges.
BHR Group's third Water and Wastewater Pumping Stations conference addresses demand for authoritative information about best practice and the latest ideas, products and techniques.
It builds on the success of the first two conferences to bring together industry specialists with a range of expertise.
The organisers have now issued a call for papers for presentation at the conference, which will be held in Cranfield, UK, 12-13 April 2005.
The pooling of knowledge contributors brought to the previous event proved an ideal forum for sharing information.
Papers were presented by varying contributors, from water and wastewater utilities, consultants and manufacturers through to research organisations.
Keynote addresses were made by OFWAT and Thames Water and other papers addressed subjects that ranged from "Factors Influencing Pumping Station Design" to "Great Man-Made River Pumping Stations In Libya".
This latest technical conference will present the best methods and approaches to pumping station design and maintenance and is an ideal way to learn about latest developments.
Contributions are welcomed on all aspects of the design and operation of water and wastewater pumping stations.
It is likely that papers accepted for presentation will cover topics such as: capital programme evaluation; project definition delivery; business case drivers (CAPEX and OPEX); station layout and plant operations; integrated system design; control optimisation; maintaining service during reconstruction.
The conference is aimed at those who need to know pumping stations.
It is particularly relevant to people who are involved with: water, power and process companies; consultants; contractors; plant suppliers; international development agencies; research and development agencies.
The event is co-sponsored by The Pump Centre, UK, and IAHR, Spain.
