During the Automation Workshop, organized by the Scottish Food and Drink Network, Rexroth will detail how their pre-configured, modular automation systems can remove cost and risk barriers

Food and drink manufacturers are under constant pressure to produce high quality products at a low price, whilst adhering to increasingly high industry standards With such high demands it is not surprising that many companies are turning to automation to become more competitive in the marketplace

The Automation Workshop brings together key players in the industry, to discuss and analyze all aspects of automation from the initial concept to the final solution.

The morning session will include presentations on the practical applications of automation including examples of companies that have already made the transition, how to finance your automation plans and how automation systems can be built around your process, rather than changing your process to fit the machine.

It will demonstrate how accessible automation can be and what the advantages are to food and drink manufacturers.

A key highlight at the morning session will be a seminar delivered by Ian Dickson, Food and Packaging Manager at Bosch Rexroth.

He will demonstrate how the cost and risk of automation can be decreased dramatically.

"In the past, handling system projects have usually required a great deal of effort, from system design through to start-up," he explains: "Not any more: for example, preconfigured Cartesian Motion Systems (CMS) from Rexroth simplify the whole process".

This one, two or three-axis motion system from Rexroth offers food and drink manufacturers and machine builders a tailor-made, plug-and-play solution for trouble-free automation of handling tasks.

The Rexroth CMS selection system utilises basic, high-level parameters, such as speed, weight and vertical and horizontal distances, to develop a system that meets your automation needs.

To reduce engineering, assembly and commissioning hours dramatically, the CMS system is delivered pre-assembled and preconfigured..

Other developments including the availability of pneumatic components designed to operate in food contact and wash down areas increase the performance of food machinery and facilitate rapid product change over times.

The afternoon session includes workshops where delegates can discuss issues relating to their current or future automation projects with experts in robotics, material handling, control systems, automation and systems integration.

This one-day FREE automation workshop, entitled 'Automate or Stagnate - Removing the Barriers to Automation', takes place at the Inchyra Grange Hotel at Polmont, Falkirk on 26th September 2007.
