Chinese orders mount for compressors

Specialist engineering company Peter Brotherhood has secured a contract to supply three of its innovative reciprocating gas compressor packages to an oil refinery based in China.

This is the latest in a series of seven orders won by Peter Brotherhood from oil refineries in China, where its compressor packages can be used to cut production costs significantly.

This latest contract was placed by the China Petroleum Material and Equipment (Group) Corporation for its Urumqi oil refinery at Urumqi in the territory of Xinjiang in China.

Each package is a typical four throw-reciprocating compressor, where three cylinders of each machine will handle hydrogen make-up gas for diesel fuel hydrofining.

They will be supplied with lubrication and cooling water consoles, pulsation vessels and a 2,600 kW main drive motor.

The compressors will be fed low-pressure hydrogen at 20 bar which will be compressed to 118 bar and then fed into a hydrotreater, which removes sulphur from gasoline.

The equipment is due for delivery in June 2006.

The compressor sales general manager at Peter Brotherhood, Tony Murphy, said: "We won the contract because of our extensive experience of designing and manufacturing gas compressors for refineries, especially in China.

The Chinese consider reliability, high quality products and value for money as the most important factors when placing an order.

We were able to provide them with a suitable solution to cover their criteria in the required timescale.".
