Dr Ryan's presentation 'Advanced Technologies for Leak Location and Sealing' to the Pipeline Industries Guild, Aberdeen section, on Tuesday 9th November 2004 was voted the Best Technical Presentation of this year's programme.
As well as providing the audience with the background to the patented 'Platelet Technology', originally developed by researchers in the Department of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, Dr Ryan spoke about the first successful commercial implementation which occurred in September 2004 on the BP Foinaven Water Injection System.
The seal created enabled BP to increase water injection from 141,000 to 154,000 bbl/day with an immediate effect on reservoir production.
