Multiphase Production Technology 2005, to be held in Barcelona, is the latest in a series of highly successful multiphase conferences: BHR Group hs issued a call for papers for this event

call for papers Multiphase technology has delivered remarkable improvements in production performance to allow companies to extend their operations and address previously insoluble transportation problems

Although the principles of the technology are now well understood the people who have driven its adoption in the past and those who will take it forward in the future have very different experiences.

On the one hand are the highly experienced specialists with years in the field who have amassed considerable knowledge and to whom industry looks to keep the technology developing through the adoption of novel operational solutions and innovative techniques.

On the other are the younger engineers, trained in the very latest techniques and eager to contribute to multiphase development, but who needs to understand quickly and effectively the key aspects of the technology.

Multiphase Production Technology 2005 is the latest in a series of highly successful multiphase conferences organised by BHR Group since 1983.

The conference has established itself as one of Europe's premier events on the subject by attracting technical experts and innovators and leaders in the application and operation of multiphase from around the world.

The organisers have issued a call for papers for presentation at the twelfth conference in the series, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain on 25-27 May 2005.

The conference has a new structure this year to reflect the participation and requirements of the two distinct groups of industry specialists.

It aims to provide each with valuable insight into the latest developments across five key areas: Laboratory and Field Measurement; Process, Measurement and Control Equipment and Analysis; Production Chemistry; Modelling and Simulation; Thermal Management.

Each theme will be introduced by papers describing aspects of "Today's Technology", followed by traditional technical papers on "Tomorrow's Technology" that feature new developments, new applications and unpublished work.

Throughout the conference, delegates will be invited to contribute views to a debate on "Next Week's Technology", technology gaps and needs for the future, to be discussed during a closing review.

Papers are invited on any subject relevant to multiphase.

It is likely that papers will cover technological developments, applications in a variety of environments or advantages of multiphase over conventional techniques in terms of operational benefits and cost savings.

Possible subjects include: Technologies: Flow Simulation/Modelling; Slug Management; Emulsions, Foams/Slurries; Boosting, Separation, Pumping; Risk/Cost Benefits; Terrain/Transient Analysis; Thermal Remediation; Sands and Scale; Metering, Instrumentation/Control; Integrated Production; Hydrates, Asphaltenes, Wax, Corrosion/Erosion; Environmental Issues; Raw Water Re-injection; Sampling.

Applications: Case Histories and Lessons Learnt; Deep/Ultradeep Waters; Difficult Terrain; Downhole/Seabed Processing; Field Validation; Adding Value; Complex Fluids; Cold Environment; Bundles/Heating Systems; Subsea Long Distance Tie-backs; Wet vs Dry Wells; Flowlines and Risers; New Applications.

The conference is designed for everyone engaged in the application, development and research of multiphase technology for the oil and gas industry.

It offers particular value to designers, facility and operations engineers, consultants and researchers from operating, contracting, consultancy and technology companies.

Applications in oil and gas may also interest engineers from other industries for whom multiphase technology offers a novel solution to their problems.

A new initiative at this year's event is the sponsorship by BP of an award for the most outstanding contribution to the conference by a young person.

BP, the technical committee and the organisers hope this will encourage organisations to support the involvement of young engineers in the event.

The event is co-sponsored by BP, Institut Francais du Petrole, Technology Initiatives, The University of Tulsa, and Neotec.
