Pumping Station conference: new call for papers

The BHR Group has extended the 'Call for Papers' deadline until the end of 2007, for the 4th Water and Wastewater Pumping Station Conference

The recent floods in the UK have highlighted the dependence upon pumping station performance.

Demands upon designers, consultants, contractors and users of pumping stations have never been more severe.

Safe and effective operation of pumping stations remains the primary requirement but calls for energy reduction are growing in importance.

Designers face the challenge of delivering new stations with the specified performance but which minimise capital and operating costs.

The need for refurbishment and continued improvement of existing facilities remains and demand for additional or more powerful pumping stations may increase, driven by climate change fears.

In the UK attention is focussed on the best compromise between the expectations of stakeholders, customers and government.

On top of this will come the sometimes conflicting demands of energy conservation and climate change policies initiated in Europe.

Further afield in the Middle East, pumping station design and operation is driven by different demands, for example minimising H2S release or clearing vast quantities of sand entering the sump, which may require a different approach to familiar problems.

Demand is rising for useful and independent information.

BHR Group's fourth Water and Wastewater Pumping Stations conference is designed to meet requirements for authoritative information about an integrated approach which includes best practice and the latest ideas, products and techniques.

It builds on the success of its predecessors to bring together industry specialists with a range of expertise.

The organisers have extended the call for papers for presentation at the conference, which will be held in Cranfield, UK, 17-19 June 2008, until the end of 2007.

The pooling of knowledge contributors brought to the previous events proved an ideal forum for sharing information.

This latest technical conference will present the best methods and approaches to pumping station design and maintenance and is an ideal way to learn about developments.

Contributions are welcomed on all aspects of the design and operation of water and wastewater pumping stations.

It is likely that papers accepted for presentation will cover topics such as: Capital Programme Evaluation; Project Definition Delivery; Business Case Drivers (CAPEX and OPEX); Station Layout And Plant Operations; Integrated System Design; Control Optimisation; Maintaining Service During Reconstruction.

The conference is aimed at those who need to know pumping stations.

It is particularly relevant to people who are involved with: Government Agencies; Water, Power and Process Companies; Consultants; Contractors; Plant Suppliers; International Development Agencies; Research and Development Agencies.

This event is supported by the International Association for Hydraulic Engineering and Research (IAHR), The Pump Centre, British Water, and the British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA).

In addition to the conference BHR Group is organising a seminar/workshop session on 19 June 2008 to provide delegates with the opportunity to discuss relevant issues with a team of technical experts and attain some hands-on experience utilising scaled physical models in the organisation's laboratory.
