New standards for lightning protection
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published the latest guidance for lightning protection, with BS EN 62305:2006 Protection against lightning, Parts 1-4
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published the latest guidance for lightning protection: the British Standard BS 6651:1999 is being replaced by BS EN 62305 Parts 1-4 BS 6651 will be withdrawn in August 2008

BS EN 62305:2006 Protection against lightning.
Parts 1-4.
The four parts of BS EN 62305 provide the general principles to be followed in the protection against lightning.
The parts are applicable to all buildings, new and existing and cover:.
* Structures including their installations and contents as well as people.
* Services connected to a structure.
* Risk assessment for a structure or for a service due to lightning flashes to earth.
* The procedure for the evaluation of an upper tolerable limit for a risk .* The requirements for protection of a structure against physical damage by means of a lightning protection system (LPS).
* Protection, in and around a structure, against physical damage and human injury due to touch and step voltages.
* Information for the design, installation, inspection, maintenance and testing of a Lightning Electromagnetic Pulse (LEMP) protection measures system (LPMS) for electrical and electronic systems within a structure.
The four parts are:.
* BS EN 62305-1:2006 Protection against lightning: General principles.
* BS EN 62305-2:2006 Protection against lightning: Risk management.
* BS EN 62305-3:2006 Protection against lightning: Physical damage to structures and life hazard.
* BS EN 62305-4:2006 Protection against lightning: Electrical and electronic systems within structures.
