Flow and level control on new plating
plant
Batten and Allen has commissioned Burkert Fluid Control Systems to design and build two control panels and supply flow and level transmitters for their new GBP1 million electroplating facility
Specialist stamping and plating company Batten and Allen has commissioned Burkert Fluid Control Systems to design and build two control panels and supply flow and level transmitters, as part of a GBP1 million investment at its Cirencester-based facility The panels, which feature PLC and relay logic, and the Type 8032 and S030 flow and level transmitters, are used to control two four-track and two two-track plating lines at Batten and Allen's reel-to-reel electroplating facility

The Burkert system ensures that the electroplating tin solution and de-ionised water, which are dosed automatically into sump tanks, are kept at the correct operating levels.
The four lines produce seven tonnes of plated material a week, which is applied to miniature precision pressings for the electronics, telecommunications, automotive and medical industries.
Part of the process, which is closely monitored by the Burkert system, pumps water-based tin solution into a plating bath equipped with solid tin anodes.
Nickel-iron and copper-iron base materials are then passed through the lines and plated with layers of nickel, selective silver and pure tin.
Commenting for Batten and Allen, project engineer Terry Brisland says: "To ensure that the correct volumes and concentrations of solution are used, the Burkert equipment monitors the flow and level of the liquids and, if an imbalance is detected, raises an audible and visual alarm that allows us to reset the process".
Burkert batch controllers are also used to control the input and output of liquid in the Batten and Allen water treatment plant, which recycles 95% of the de-ionised water used in the plating lines. Request a free brochure from Burkert Fluid Control Systems ...
