AirLINE for Ex Zone 1/21 in pharma and chemicals

A Burkert Fluid Control Systems product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team May 24, 2007

AirLINE Ex Type 8650 is the first modular electro-pneumatic automation system that automates complex process and production sequences in places where there is an explosion hazard (Zone 1/21)

The ignition protection type "intrinsically safe" (EExi) allows solenoid valves and modules to be changed during operation.

AirLINE Ex is used mainly in the pharmaceuticals industry, chemicals and petrochemicals, as well as in paint and varnish processing.

In these areas of use, the new system is so far the only electro-pneumatic compact automation solution that allows the integration of EExi pneumatic valves without additional wiring, approved for use in a hazardous, zoned area.

Thanks to the integration of pneumatic functions, process and production sequences can now also be completely decentralised, and in an explosive environment.

AirLINE Ex is of a modular design.

This allows the system to be customised exactly to the application.

Besides a large number of electrical I/O modules, it is also possible to integrate pneumatic modules for 2 valve sizes.

AirLINE Ex can be seamlessly integrated into the Simatic ET200iSP and has a number of diagnosis functions, for example if a wire is broken or if there is a short circuit.

AirLINE also performs identification and maintenance tasks.

Control is via Profibus DP-is.

Technical features:.

* Control via Profibus DP-is.

* Optional: Redundancy of field bus and supply.

* Many I/O functions.

* Up to 48 valve places, 4 valve places per module.

* High reliability and long service life thanks to seat valve technology.

* Flow 300 l/min or 700 l/min, depending on valve type.

* Optional: P shut-off; for replacing valves during operation.
