Carlisle and Red Kite can help you sleep
Carlisle Process Systems has helped many in the UK's dairy industry in a variety of ways, but assisting people to get a good night's sleep is a new one even for this pioneering company
Carlisle Process Systems has helped many in the UK's dairy industry in a variety of ways, but assisting people to get a good night's sleep is a new one even for this pioneering company But that is just what has happened after Carlisle, long recognised as a top specialist in the manufacture of a range of equipment for the dairy industry, signed a contract with organic milk producers Red Kite Farms

Scottish milk farm upgrades with CPS
Bogany Farm, based on the Isle of Bute off the west coast of Scotland, is replacing its 30-year-old Wincanton pasteuriser with a new system from Carlisle Process Systems (CPS)
The farming company, based in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty in Oxfordshire, turned to Carlisle when it wanted a pasteuriser to handle its latest product, Slumber Bedtime Milk, which is rich in melatonin, a long-regarded aid to falling asleep.
Ten weeks later the pasteuriser had been built, tested and installed at the state-of-the-art dairy complex, which handles the output of 400 Holstein-Friesian milking cows.
And not long after that the pasteuriser had helped Red Kite win the dairy industry top award for innovation.

New pasteuriser for Duchy College, Cornwall
Tetra Pak CPS has recently installed a new pasteurisation system as part of a GBP5million project to develop the Duchy College Agri-food Innovation Centre in Cornwall
Paul Griffin, business development manager with the Carlisle Dairy, Food and Beverage Group, said: ''We designed the electrically heated, skid-mounted pasteuriser especially for Red Kite Farms.
It heats and cools milk in a continuous process and has taken over from an earlier pasteuriser the company was using''.
The machine has also pleased staff at the farm business, which was set up in 1996 on a holding which sells fully accredited organic milk produced from 300 acres of grassland alongside the 800 acres used for forage crops and another 400 acres of arable land.
Farms director Clare Pool has been thrilled by the success of their first contract with Carlisle Process Systems.
''They were very efficient throughout the whole design, build and installation process.
And with the end product working so well, we would not hesitate to turn to them again,'' she said.
And she explained the thinking behind Red Kite's need for a new pasteuriser.
''We wanted it for our Slumber Bedtime Milk which we believe helps people to drift off to sleep.
The theory is that levels of human melatonin are boosted by the extra levels in the night-time cows' milk and lead to better body clock regulation and hence a better sleep".
Clare believes that, thanks in part to the help and expertise her company received from Carlisle, Red Kite Farms are on to a winner.
Already the sleep-aiding milk is on sale in Waitrose supermarkets and hopes are high that it will soon be in the fridges of other store chains.
Now the two companies are basking in the reflected glory of Slumber Bedtime Milk winning the Milk Development Council's David Hall Memorial Award, which annually recognises innovation in the dairy food industry.
Slumber Bedtime Milk was also a runner-up for the 'Judges Special Award' in the AIM (additives, ingredients and manufacture) category, 2003 awards.
