Carlisle Process Systems (CPS) has just won a massive exciting order worth GBP40 million from the Southwest Cheese Company in the USA, for a new cheese and whey production facility

Carlisle Process Systems (CPS) has just won a massive exciting order worth GBP40 million from the Southwest Cheese Company in the USA, for a new cheese and whey production facility CPS will be responsible for the engineering, equipment supply, installation and automation of the entire process plant from milk intake to the packaged cheese and whey powder stores

CPS will supply systems and equipment from its brands Wincanton, Scherping, Damrow Downstream, Zimmer, Stork Friesland and Walker as well as other equipment from sub-suppliers.

The project will be operational in late 2005 with incremental capacity being commissioned as milk volumes increase to the end of 2006.

Tim High, President of Carlisle Process Systems, stated, "CPS was awarded the project because of its scope of supply and its level of knowledge and expertise in cheese and powder systems.

We have hundreds of successful cheese and powder plant installations as reference sites, including many of the world's largest design-build cheese and milk powder plants".

Maurice Keane, CEO of Southwest Cheese Company added, "CPS was a natural choice for us, having worked together successfully on several projects over the years.

Our shareholders have seen Carlisle build a group of companies over the last few years that is now recognised as the market leader in integrated cheese and powder technology systems".

The Southwest Cheese Project is a planned joint venture between Glanbia Foods USA, Dairy Farmers of America, and Select Milk.

The plant will produce blocks of cheddar cheese in a new 300,000 square feet facility worth GBP110 million, which will be built in Clovis, New Mexico.

The facility will produce cheese in blocks (weighing up to 640 pounds) using seven million pounds of milk per day.

Once fully commissioned, the facility will process over 2.3 billion pounds of milk, and produce 250 million pounds of cheese and 16.5 million pounds of high value added whey proteins each year.

It is expected that the plant will also, over time, become the largest advanced whey processing facility in the Northern Hemisphere.
