Speed was of the essence when Carlisle Process Systems was commissioned by the food giant Heinz to provide new mixing vessels for sauces together with a replacement of their complete hot water system

Speed was of the essence when Carlisle Process Systems (CPS), a leading global provider of top-quality solutions to those involved in a whole range of liquid processing industries, was commissioned by the food giant Heinz to provide new mixing vessels for sauces together with a replacement and extension of the hot water system at one of its UK plants To keep downtime to a minimum, Heinz wanted the whole job done over a weekend, a challenge which the Dairy, Food and Beverage Group at CPS had met in the past for other clients and one it was not going to shirk here

The group's business development manager, Paul Griffin, had the two vessels, each with a capacity of 1,000 litres built - in high grade Avesta 254SMO, corrosion resistant stainless steel - and tested by CPS engineers.

And then they were taken to the Heinz Foodservice plant at Telford in Shropshire when it closed down on a Friday.

By Monday they had been safely installed and were ready to process sauces, which form part of Heinz's single serve sachet condiment range.

Mr Griffin said: ''We took out the old vessels and fitted our new CPS ones, complete with agitators.

And over the same weekend we undertook a compete upgrade of the plant's hot water system which feeds the hosing and wash station.

Basically there had been difficulties in getting enough hot water into the system, so we proposed a complete new redesigned system.

And come Sunday night on that same weekend, that was ready to go too.'' Instead of a traditional coil installation, CPS used plate heat exchangers for the hot water, which greatly improved the flow.

Mr Griffin said: ''This was the first time for a while that we had worked directly with Heinz.

We have undertaken jobs for them through third parties but on this occasion they came to us direct which has to be a feather in our cap''.

And Heinz have been quick to let it be known just how highly they valued the job done by CPS - which bodes well for the company winning more contracts at some of the 10 plants dotted around the UK.

Over at Telford, Heinz Foodservice engineering manager Graham Boyle was highly delighted with the service from CPS.

''They came in, measured up and installed everything according to our requirements.

And the biggest bonus was that they did it in a weekend, which meant we did not have to stop production during the week.

''This was the first time we had bought directly from CPS, though they have done repair work for us in the past.

And we were so impressed that we will not hesitate to go back to them again - or recommend them to colleagues in other parts of the Heinz operation.

They really were very good from start to finish.''.
